Croton is a type of ornamental plant, which is most commonly planted indoors as an ornamental plant.  The leaves of this plant are shiny, and it is found in many colors according to the species.  The botanical name of Croton is Scientific Name – Codiaeum Variegatum.

The Croton plant, also known as the Rushfoil plant, is a plant in the “spurge” family.  Most of the plants with colorful leaves grow in this species.  These plants were introduced to Europeans several hundred years ago by Georg Eberd Rumphius.  The botanical name of Croton is Codiaeum Variegatum.  The name Croton comes from the Greek word icο k (krótos), which means “tick”.  It also shows the size of the seeds of some species of plants.

 The size of the leaves of the Croton plant is about 2 to 7 inches long.  The length and width of these leaves mostly depend on their species.  Generally their leaves are oval and rounded.  Tropical climates are best for growing croton plants.  These plants like mild warm weather.  This plant grows very well in the temperature of 13 to 27 degree Celsius.  If the temperature goes below or above this, the leaves of these plants begin to deteriorate.

How to Grow Croton Plants From Cuttings 

 So far we have learned all the general information about Croton.  Now you know, how to plant a croton plant?  Croton plant is planted in many ways.  Most people do it through cuttings.  But the plants of some of its species are also grown from the leaves.

 What is the right time to plant a croton plant?  Croton plant should always be planted in the month of July, August and September.  These days it grows very easily.  Now know, complete information about setting up croton plant –

 To transplant the croton plant from a cutting, first cut 5 to 6 long cuttings.  All these cuttings should be soft.

 After this, you have to select a pot or pot, in which about 4 to 5 croton cuttings can be easily planted.

 Always choose such a pot, it is very important to have a hole under it.

 After this, fill both the sand and some gravel inside the pot thoroughly.

 After filling the soil mixture in the pot, water it well.

 When the sand of the pot is completely moist, make pits in it according to the number of cuttings with some wood.

 Remove the bottom two leaves of all your croton cuttings, and cut the top leaves in half as well.

 After this, you should dip the lower part of all the cuttings in about 2 times water and apply rooting hormone powder on it.

 Rooting hormone powder is very beneficial in rooting the cuttings.

 After applying rooting hormone powder to all the cuttings, plant the cuttings in the potted pots.

 After this again pour plenty of water in the pot.

 It may take about a month for all these cuttings to take root.

 Keep watering the pot from time to time till the roots start growing from the plant.

How to Care Croton Plant

 Always keep the croton plant in a place that receives light sunlight.  If the plant does not get sunlight at all, it causes the color of its leaves to become lighter.

 Whenever you plant a croton plant or bring it from the nursery, always take care of its soil.  This plant likes sandy soil more.  If you planted your plant in clay soil, you should change its soil.

 One thing should always be kept in mind while planting a plant, it is very important to have a hole in the pot in which you are planting your croton plant, for water to drain out.

 These plants do not require much fertilizer.  If you put manure in the pot even once in 4 to 5 months, then it is enough for this.

 The croton plant never needs much water.  The plant should not be watered until the soil of the pot becomes almost dry.  Its roots start getting damaged by giving too much water.
